The answer is evidently a Hybrid ore hauler with overhead electricity supply to supplement
a smaller diesel engine on the upward/loaded haul.
Once the hauler reaches the top a 100 HP engine will drive it rather than a 4000 one.

Then on the way down the pit empty electric braking can be used that feeds electricity
back into the grid.
