Redgum, all that I see in your post, is that Governments don't seem to be able to stop themselves from making everything opaque.

Why not simply stop the subsidies & let companies run on their own economic merits - rather than give on one hand, take more on the other, and create bureaucratic administration all over the place.

I see no merit in a super tax on a select industry, which is proposed primarily because the government has put a hole in it's budget and is looking for simple ways to fill it again.

The value of our resources is set on the world stage, not in isolation - so rent taxes, or super profit taxes must be seen in a tax versus benefit analysis compared to other countries.

IMO this government is completely incompetent.
