As I stated recently, Xi won't be actually going to the Ukraine.
Why not, many other world leaders have gone, even under threat of being targeted, accidently or not, and they weren't even specifically broking for peace. But Xi won't go. Why not ?
Xi is not really interested in peace in the Ukraine. If he was, he would have drawn up a reasonable peace plan in the first place, and not the blank cheque for Russia to pursue its expansionism. Xi's plan is lacking any grain of credibility, and as such, he can't personally face Zelensky, who is now the face of decency and democracy in the world. If he wasn't, the remainder of the world - apart from depostic states like China - wouldn't be giving the Ukraine everything they can to defend themselves and uphold this decency. No, Xi would be terribly out of place in the Ukraine.
Tomorrow, he will call Zelensky who will take the call. Nothing will come of it for the obvious reason, and the next day Xi will return to China, personally victorious. He will believe that he has done evrything possible to broker peace, and the fools of this world, the American haters and those who live within western democracies and enjoy all its benefits, but self loath our own freedom, will gloat over Xi's 'success,' while continuing to internally despise the west.
But even though Xi's peace plan is laughable to everyone who matters, his brief journey to Moscow is likely to have achieved its true purpose. Xi will have secured his assurance from his 'no limits' mate, Putin, that the later will support Xi's pending invasion of Taiwan by putting his Pacific Fleet on standby as required. In return, Putin gets what he needs most too; weapons from China.
Xi's excuse to provide weapons in the near future will be when the Ukraine rejects Xi's great peace plan, leaving China with the unfortunate need to supply weapons as a means for Russia to defend themselves. After all, if the west can supply weapons to the Ukraine, then China can supply weapon sto Russia, especially after China's peace plan is rejected by both the Ukraine and supported by its Western Allies.
Xi's peace plan initiative including visit to Moscow will be a win-win scenario for China and Russia, as both get what they need most: weapons for Russia and a Russian Fleet for China, but peace will be many further steps away. In fact, the new war that China is planning will become one step closer.
Xi is the proverbial wolf in sheep's clothing.
