Let's face it. This was typical of Rudd.
The tax was called a Super Profits Tax to deceive, yes, to deceive ordinary Australians who'd all think it's fair and reasonable for Super Profits to be taxed.
In reality this tax is a retrospective 40% nationalisation/appropriation of the mining industry.
It's brought about the sort of political risk people were concerned about from Chavez in Bolivia.
To think we've got this sort of political risk being hoisted upon us in Australia by Rudd is scandalous. No wonder a resource rich nation like Canada is laughing at us and the Government is telling the world to do business in Canada.
However, what Rudd is attempting is so draconian and un Australian I cannot see him getting it passed through the Senate, even if by some fluke Labor wins the next election.
They say Governments lose elections. Oppositions don't win them. Well, there's never a dull moment with this Rudd Government, lurching from diaster to disaster.
