Something to consider. Many people chain themselves to their work, accumulating leave and never use it.
I made the decision years ago to prioritise travel and for several years was travelling 2-3 months of the year. Salary sacrificing of leave allowed me to do this. My investments looked after themselves, although enjoyed keeping tabs on them. My work I forgot about, I made numerous friends from overseas and we would regroup for further adventures ( trekking or cycling ). With my present predicament my prioritisation of travel has given me lots of wonderful memories and friends I made are a key part of my support network.
I’m retired now. No way I could be working with my hectic schedule of treatment. Unfortunately I can no longer travel due to current complications from treatment ( trying to get pain under control at the moment and will start chemo next week ). Last year I had some positive response to treatment ( immunotherapy) however have now failed - some tumours initially responded well but eventually became aggressive.
I say to people that investing is a productive hobby and worthwhile putting the time into.
Investing also provides additional financial resources you can fall back onto if needed. At this point profits from investment property sale. The chemo I am going onto next week is not normally used for my cancer type and hence not covered by the PBS or insurance, so I have to self-fund the cost of the drugs.
