Does anyone know how shorters work in this space as keen to get an insight?

We all know they got smashed yesterday on LTR with approx 200M shares shorted on that stock up until yesterday. SP went up by $1 so the pain would be obvious.
For us, the grubs are currently in at 39M of which 20M were purchased on 17/3/23 in a range between 51.5-53.5 for the day and we took a bit of a hit and now we are bouncing back into that range. Trying to understand the standard approach of these shorters.

I just noticed as we started to hit this range this morning another 1M come out of nowhere to subdue the buying at 50.5 after hitting 51 cents.
At our recent highs there was less than 1M shares shorted so they do have quite a bearing on day-to-day sentiment. It doesn't concern me too much as I see this a long-term investment as many of you do on HC. I just find it interesting as I would think with news potentially dropping at anytime they could get caught with their pants down. I would have thought they would manipulate other stocks with less upside so trying to understand the rationale? I appreciate this can be a very complex area.
I am guessing over the next few days they will push down during the day but make sure they have themselves covered late to mitigate any surprises that drop, that is why I love it when companies have announcements and do it mid morning.

In the case of LTR yesterday it didn't matter either way as with 200M shares scrambling to find a home, it was epic to watch and I'm not even an LTR holder. They even had a go at them this morning and failed. I just don't want the grubs trying to find a new long term home with us?
