I'm not 100% sure if I'm answer your question bud, but from what I can make of it when the stock price drops like it has the shorts will start covering the positions as the likelihood of a further drop is unlikely.
Theyve made their money and plenty of it.
Now as the market turns for the better and there's a few days of green, it givens them a tolerance to work with again and they'll flood to shorten the SP.
