They were part of the convoy that was parked up, waiting for instructions. As I mentioned, they weren’t committed to a ground attack on the capital.
As I pointed out, Vlad’s team didn’t go in for the US Opening gambit of Shock&Awe total destruction .
Team Vlad tried a more measured approach at the start, I would suggest that they were hoping for a quick result and as such they tried to reduce the negative impacts on the civilian population.
Of course that pipe dream was over, reasonably quickly.
As we can see now, it’s clearly a war of attrition and there can only be one result unless NATO is willing to commit to boots on the ground.
