Re "If they were as bad as most people believe they would be outlawed quickly" rubbish, otherwise half of the asx dodgy companies would be outlawed, funny how people consider the ASX as regulated, there are more scams on the ASX than Crypto lols. As much as I believe shorters to be very feral, they cant be blamed for every market movement.
Other markets function quite well without shorting there is no reason the ASX cannot function with out it. Many quality stocks do get shorted to death fact of the ASX and its pathetic regulations, however one needs to do a bit of homework to establish if it is shorters that are responsible on the individual stock rather than just laying the blame.
I am not sure how long you have been around the asx however GXY years ago was smashed by the shorters, they were like a dog to a bone or fleas to a dog and woudnt let go until lithium turned around and the company got taken over, I so love to see the end when shorters get rightly f%#d over
