There is embedded firmware in the ASIC chip packaged with each AKP chip, but the ASIC chips will need to be fed a stream of digital information from some other embedded circuit. I assume that circuit is where the software fixes would be applied as well as configuration (e.g. when using multiple chips together to increase the acoustic performance).
It basically would be a miniature computer... fortunately there are a range of suitable system-on-chip devices which could be adapted for this application. Presumably this would be part of what AKP sells to OEMs.
