    The Soviet Union was in Afghanistan for a long time without making any progress.
    Eventually after about 20 years the Russians pulled out.
    Ukraine could be a similar situation.

    The Russians will keep fighting for a long time in Ukraine without making any real gains and eventually the penny will drop and they will withdraw.
