Ukraine will be different to Afghanistan for the Russians as they spent a third of their total budget on Ukraine last year and set to spend even more this year if they continue to hold ground, even without advancing. Soviet costs in Afghanistan was said to be 3 to 8 billion$ a year (such a large variant in typical Soviet numbers) and the cost in Ukraine thus far said ho have exceeded 130bill $. Same time the revenue in Russia is falling drastically as the top Oligarch said Russia will run out of cash soon. First quarter 2023 budget deficit was the highest since 1998 when USSR collapsed.
