The current Liberal party is liberal in name only. It is socially reactionary, with a leader who wants to put women back in the kitchen and who feels "threatened" by homosexuals. At least Turnbull was a chance for the party to act with a social conscience, although I suspect it would have been a wolf in sheep's clothing with the wolf coming out once elected (we saw a bit of this when Howard got control of the senate and introduced the draconian workchoices legislation).
