You set up a publicly listed company, raise money from shareholders, buy some assets offshore, then tell the shareholders the assets became "un-commercial and you had to walk away". No attempt needed to try and salvage the assets or to see how much you can get for assets that were very recently worth tens of millions of dollars. No proof required that you didn't get any kickbacks or sell the assets off for cash on the side or even really bought any assets to start with. No hari-kari. Just a fresh start and a new direction.
