Not sure what people think the govt is going to do here. Handing the asset to another party would be an odd move as they are likely going to get the free cash from more than half the project as it is under the PPSA. This is a govt that is struggling to pay its own members enough that they can stay in a decent hotel when parliament is sitting.

It’s not lithium, diamonds or gold that can be extracted by hand. It’s oil and gas under pressure that is over 5km below the surface. They need someone else to retrieve it and convert it into dollars for them. What they do with those dollars is up to them.

If I was a corrupt president, and not saying that the Zim govt is corrupt at all, I’d look at the fastest option to get the cash rolling in and back it. Getting into a protracted argument with an Australian company because I changed my mind and gave the license to another party would delay this huge wave of cash I am probably 24-36 months away from seeing the start of, for another 3-4 years.

Hot Copperites aren’t the only ones picking new lambo paint colours. And the biggest stakeholder in this venture is the ZIM govt.
