Speculative reporting in Saturday’s Herald Sun by columnist ‘Backroom Baz’ that Andrews may be contemplating life after politics much sooner than most people are expecting. The looming budget shocker is weighing on Andrews and the widespread condemnation of Andrews following IBAC’s report on corrupt payments to the HSU just days before election ‘Caretaker Conventions’ for the 2018 state election took effect.
The budget will show that Andrews has effectively bankrupted Victoria and turning off the fiscal dribbles of the Geelong Fast Rail and Airport Rail projects will make only a tiny difference to debt projections.
The biggest problem is that in the face of dwindling economic activity in Victoria the ability of the state government to meet interest payments is severely compromised. And remember by 2026, that is just in 3 years time, additional interest costs of $500 million per month will need to be funded from new taxes and/or reduced services being provided.
Remember at the 2022 election Andrews said Victoria can have it all. What a big fat lie. But that’s okay because in Andrews world it is win at all costs and bugger the sheeple.
