    last week Bubwell posted a chart of the toronto stock exchange to examine the effect, if any, of the mining tax on the canadian mining issues, which you would have expected to do well, because they should not be subject to it. He found nothing in the charts to suggest any effect.

    This led to the suggestion that perhaps Vale of Brazil, might be at a competitive advantage to BHP and/or RIO

    This is a chart of VALE, with the announcement of the mining tax marked in.

    I reckon most people would be able to see no discernible effect, and would be hard pressed to tell this chart from that of BHP. This leads me to conclude that there is no credible evidence that BHPs share price has diverged from it's international competitors
