There is some interest in FeN magnets and their potential commercialisation by Niron: https://www.nironmagnetics.com/news/ They've been researching this for some time now and it appears the material is notoriously difficult to manufacture. The best source of info on methods that I could find is (later in the article): https://hackaday.com/2022/09/01/iron-nitrides-powerful-magnets-without-the-rare-earth-elements/ Maybe there are improved methods but what's described there sounds very difficult to scale up. In the meantime Niron have announced plenty of research and partnerships but not a single magnet produced or supplied to a potential partner/customer. But we should all be cognisant of new tech that could potentially challenge NdFeB. I follow their releases.
