You seem to be ignoring that Toyota is already working with a lithium company: Allkem. An associate of Toyota Motor Corporation, Toyota Tsusho has a bunch of shares in Allkem, is in a joint venture with Allkem for the Olaroz project in Argentina and is the exclusive sales agent of product from both Olaroz 1 and Olaroz 2. Toyota Tsusho is also partnering Allkem on the Naraha lithium hydroxide plant in Japan in which Toyota Motor Corporation got involved in sourcing funds for the project.

I think it is fair to say that without the financial and managerial intervention of Toyota Tsusho maybe a decade ago Orocobre and Olaroz would have failed and then the Toyota universe did Allkem another favour with Naraha by not only arranging highly attractive debt facilities but by structuring it so that even though Allkem legally owns less than 50% of the project it gets 75% of the financial benefit. In short, Allkem has benefited greatly over the years by having been included in Toyota's sphere of influence.

Going on Allkem's experience with the Toyota universe Sayona could do far worse than hooking up with one of the other Japanese OEM majors.
