The advantage of UCG is that CO2 emissions are approx 30% less than conventional coal fired powered power stations etc to start with-that is the attraction.The turbines are designed to be efficient with this amount of CO2 in the fuel gas.However as the EPA or similar bodies world wide demand less emissions and viable avenues to dispose of it then it is quite a simple process to remove.The gas stream is fed through a shower of liquid (used to be an arsenic solution)-now MDEA methyldiethylsomething which absorbs the CO2 at high pressure and low temp. This liquid is then circulated to another vessel -the CO2 releases at low pressure and high temp-a continuous cycle of liquid absorbing and releasing.What we are doing and supporting is a very nice reduction in CO2 now-when suitable storage or conversion techniques are developed i'm sure they will be embraced totally.
