You obviously haven't been in the share market for a long time
If a company has a pile of cash that it doesn't need, it is in the shareholder's best interest for the company to return the cash to shareholders who have loyally stood by the company, rather than leave it in a bank account that doesn't even provide enough interest to beat inflation
Leaving money sitting around doing nothing is inefficient and against the interest of shareholders
