Interesting news out today about goldfields .GB girl has often touted that Goldfields would takeover DEG(none sense in my opinion).Goldfields is however interested in rapidly diversifying out of South Africa in view of catastrophic political and power situation there .Today they have announced a plan to buy in 50% of the Windfall deposit ,this is a large discovery which is high grade in Canada discovered by Osisko ,reserves in Canada can be acquired for about 50-60% cheaper than DEG .
If one is seriously interested in investing in a large deposit which is going to be a mine and is quite cheap the Blackwater deposit fits the bill.It is 8 million ounces ,probably one of the few big deposits worldwide which will be brought to production from scratch without a major being involved .It is fully permitted ,plans for first gold pour next year ,project managers are extremely experienced in bringing big deposits on stream and financing is in place .The initial production is 400000 ounces a year for a 20 yr mine life ,low AISC.Company running the project which has an Aussie twin is valued at less than 1 billion or about 40% of DEG.
Another Aussie mine the Beta hunt is doing well ,controlled by a Canadian company ,suddenly rising in value ,very cheap and well run and steadily expanding production funded through cash flow.Lots of consolidation in the mining sector but only for fairly priced assets ,not for those overvalued by 50%.
