Yes, I agree. That is why, I think, if this speciation in progress is true, there will be a chain of researchers working to observe the progress until the end. If in the end the observation shows that a new species of finch indeed emerges from a species that was different, then the theory of evolution may become the law of evolution.
But for now it is still a theory; scientifically speaking.
