at that time, when the first fleet arrived in Aus, white people were far more violent, generally, than Aboriginal people. just look at the slaughters of first Aussies to see just how violent the whites were.
all cultures had violent ways of dealing within their communities.
so of course first Aussies weren't unusual.... at least they had laws and punishments.... far more fairly balanced than British habit of locking people up in old hunks moored along the Thames and other areas around the river mouth and shipping them worse than cattle to make colonies where many died of violence, disease and malnutrition.
