the intent & spirit behind the second amendment is about ensuring the citizens of the various states are never placed into a position were they are helpless & defenceless against a potentially malicious, harmful, oppressive federal government.
back in 1791 a musket was the principle tool available to both protagonist today its an automatic rifle.
understand that principle and then you get closer to understanding why Texans feel duty bound to keep automatic rifles, the right to defend agains threats foreign and or domestic.
That and the fact, rightly or wrongly, they feel as if they're besieged by hordes of illegal immigrants streaming freely across the border.
you saw what happened in the aftermath of the 2020 election? lot of people were pissed off at the federal government, amongst other things.
