Life expectancy in 1800 for the colonials wasn;t even 40 years old! So to say first australians should be grateful their lives are now longer is utter rubbish. The alcohol abuse needs to be addressed, perhaps its due to a lack of future, battered pride and a culture which is stomped on?
I reckon if I had a life which seemed empty and directionless I'd hit the bottle also.
