I currently have between 20% and 25% in cash. However I am in my sixties. I have around 15 to 17% in SOL BKW but I think they will get to say 6 investment arms. I would prefer around 40% of the assets supplying a base dividend. I rate management of BKW better for what it is seeking to do. I think the modern green industrial parks are an asset for the future. I rate GMG as one of the best partners out there. However when I retire or maybe if I ever retire I will have to live off income and I trust the dividend stream here more than I do from other LIC's.
What I find interesting is that people constantly try to seek a value for investments and sell them when they see them as over valued, yet they don't measure the changing fortunes of the company they work for and how risky at times their career is. We all assume the future paychecks are secure until they are not. Thus I have a very hard regime in valuing the net proceeds after CGT tax before jumping in and out. Its my one hate that my biggest liability isn't the breakup of a relationship its the 45% shareholder I have who is a constant threat to my wealth. Lets assume you bought SOL @ $16 its now $33 so $17 Profit less 50% so lets say $9 to tax @ 45% - So tax is $4.00 so you net $29.00 To me that is a push - I think they are worth $29 and so I think I would not sell unless I could get at least a net of $32.00 and even then I would hold onto 50% because I value the income stream and what would I do with the cash.
Over the past decade Investing and stock picking have become almost impossible.
