The Aztecs for example invented the wheel but had no need for it because they had no horses or cows, those animals did not make it to the new world when the ice cap melted, the biggest animal Aztec could domesticate was turkeys. This placed them at an inherent disadvantage in transport and logistics, the most important infrastructure for agricultural innovation.
