Actually the Gold ETF (or any ETF on the asutralian market) is nothing like BHP. An ETF is an open ended security, meaning the securities can be created or redeemed as demand requires. There are a fixed number of BHP shares on issue .
The open ended function allows the security to track the spot price of gold regardless of the amount of demand for the ETF.
Differences may be timing or management fees.
