"when there is a problem with an individual you look not only at the individual but also at what environment they are operating in if you want to avoid a repeat".

A police officer has been called out at 4 in the morning, he is anticipating having to deal with a violent situation, he has a taser. The 95 year old dementia patient, with a steak knife, almost unanimously described on here as harmless gets tasered when she doesnt comply with the officers request. And you and others say it is the police forces fault, that the rest home and its staff choosing to call in the police have no responsibility. The environment here, is the old peoples home, police should keep well away except in extreme circumstances. Dementia patients should be managed by their care givers and medical staff. All around the world there are thousands of police, and it frequently occurs they cause serious injury or death, sometimes this is justified, sometimes it is brutality and somretimes it falls in a grey area, is it an accident, foolishness. We all know this, it is common sense. So why involve the police in this incident? Cant the care givers cope with the frail old lady. Medical misadventure, a very common problem.
