As a shareholder of Myer, I think the company must honor the gift cards as long as they are within the expiration date. It is a clear and simple arrangement with a clear condition. Now, if a customer really goes to the store and requests it, (if I was a manager) I would probably extend it for a few days, so my customer is happy and comes back with deep pockets.

I would think gift cards have an expiration date in order to compel the owner to go ahead and shop ASAP. Pressure the GC owner to go ahead and shop for stuff that maybe they did not really need, or before they actually needed to buy it. So, as shareholder of Myer, I love that they have them. But it is also customer's responsibility to get the most of them.

It is also very nice to receive or to give gift cards. I give my wife Myer gift cards on some occasions so she can go a get herself stuff, and saves me having to think what to get her.

Finally, I think it is great to hear that some wives (or husbands) go to Myer to spend thousands of dollars. Not only helps us shareholders, but also reinforces why did I buy share on the first place. To me, Myers is synonym of fashion in Australia, affordable and great experience. Just going there to hang out is fun and it is a forced stop for those who enjoy shopping.
