Sorry, I might be missing something that someone here can explain.
If you sell shares now, why do you need to wait until 1 July or after to buy back? Can't you sell and buy back almost immediately (subject to there being enough shares in the sell queue), same day even?
Assuming I want to realise a capital loss, the sale locks in the loss for this tax year and I buy back hopefully for no more than a few cents difference.
