Has FMG made a blunder by developing green hydrogen ?, page-18

As one of the biggest pro-hydrogen people, I have to give my two cents.

    To the Woke:

    • Battery cars are great, but not everyone has a power point to charge overnight, many people park their cars on the street without access to chargers, many people don't have hours of spare time to charge their cars at public charging stations. Public charging prices will go up, overtaking petrol & hydrogen costs. Many people drive long distances and get range anxiety. So whilst up to 90% of cars may end up being battery powered, there is still space for some hydrogen cars..... until we run out of lithium in 50 years, then hydrogen will increase in market share. My bet is around 60-80% of cars will be BEV.
    • Battery trucks are good, but very much limited to city traffic only, long haul is going to be a problem. Having a large number of EV trucks ( and cars) will have serious impact to the local substations, expensive upgrades will need to be funded through higher electricity prices. Long distance trucking is the realm of hydrogen unless serious improvements in batteries comes along.
    • Battery Planes are not very feasible, the pure weight of the batteries leans heavily in hydrogens favour, espeecially long haul.
    • Battery ships aren't even close to being a dream. Hydrogen/ammonia/synthetic fuels are the only possible green option.
    • Green Iron is the only long term solution, we cannot recycle enough to use EAF, so green iron is the only green solution, whether that be hydrogen or a membrane solution, time will tell.... lots of time.

    To the Anti-Woke:
    • Hydrogen will be cheaper than diesel, petrol, oil! That is almost guaranteed!
    • Diesel costs FMG about $2 per litre
    • 1 Kg of hydrogen has about the same power output as 4-5 liters of diesel,
    • That means if we can produce hydrogen for under $8 per KG, we should SAVE MONEY, billions $$$$$$! cool.png
    • Hydrogen takes <55 kwh of electricity to make 1 kg. And that figure is quickly reducing.
    • Solar farm prices are already <5 cents per kwh, that means $2.5/kg Sh!t loads cheaper than a break even of $8 /kg
    • Of course we need some CAPEX to go with it, but we should save money.
    • If FMG can save money, then any company can save money, $, and we can make $$$$$$ by helping them save $$.
    • We have some of the cheapest solar in the world, meaning cheapest hydrogen and can ship around the world to those countries with high costs.
    • Governments are throwing money at hydrogen, we should take it and make $$$$.
    • Who cares if climate change is real or not if we're making profit?

The rest:Bit of extra money blending with natural gas, bit of money from existing hydrogen, bit of money from green cement, a bit here, a bit there, all adds up.
