There were witnesses who denied as well. One of the supporters of the rumours I heard was the brother-in-law of the "farmer". One of the Taliban who also use hearsay to condemn women for adultery and think it's OK to bury them up to their neck in the ground and men stand around stoning them to death. I'd believe him...not. I am disappointed by people in this country smirking as if they have done something clever...such as the journalists whose most frightening possibility is their mobile phone could run out of battery, or they could break a nail typing furiously on the keyboard. So brave, besmirching men who are prepared to put their lives at risk for their country. Those of us able to live our lives in safety because there are men willing to volunteer to do this job, should be thankful. Not many of us give them a thought until something like this happens. Obviously, their thought processes in war zones have to change from what we take for everyday morals. Who thinks of the horrors they may have seen and live with for the rest of their lives, or the effect it has on their mental capacities? The suicide rates of veterans is an indication of that. Until we have dodged a bullet and faced real life-threatening situations in a country where a 15year old passing by could be wearing an explosive vest, or the "farmer" could turn around the corner and start firing at you, then you could get some perspective that maybe we should think twice before judging them harshly, since we have no idea what we would become, or do in their situations. Would we be brave, or would we be bed-wetters? Once, what happened on the battlefield stayed on the battlefield.
