"Processing pegmatites using conventional approaches is energy and lixiviant intensive, which makes it expensive. However, the relatively higher concentration of lithium in pegmatites (compared to brines) compensates for the cost of processing. The compromise between the cost of processing and grade means that mining pegmatites and brine deposits are both viable (Meshram et al., 2014). To meet the increasing demand for lithium, extracting lithium from lithium-bearing minerals is required".
