Having been a principle technical officer in a past life, I do know that a laser bean only travels in a straight line, therefore I would assume that only a small fraction of then U235 being targeted would be hit by this beam if it were traveling in a straight line without altering the beams direction somehow to achieve hitting more of the desired target which I assume is the U235, because there is much less of that compared to targeting the U238, one way to move the beam in many directions could be by using a rotating mirror, or maybe they could achieve something similar is by using vibration either on the laser or the container that encapsulates the U235 plus the U238, or even using more than one laser and apply something similar to move their beams?
One thing for sure though is that we will never be told how they do this, because it would be propriety and considered a trade secret, but rest assured I believe they now have the answers required!
