When I say short to long I simply mean their sentiment is now to close the short position and also accumulate (long) rather than trying to further profit from shorting it downwards. I.e. they now are on board with us rather than betting against us because they see us being a profitable long term investment and the capital raise was the mechanism to allow them to conduct this switch with high liquidity without impacting the price with buy pressure.
I think @Lootscroll99 summed it up pretty nicely above tbh. That's exactly my take on it also.
It's a nightmare to try to understand what these instos can and do actually do. State Street for example isn't the one actually shorting us when those notices pop up, they buy and sell on behalf of ETFs, super funds and subsidiaries etc in a managerial position, that's why they often appear and drop as substantial holder as they are the custodian. Then they will lend these shares out to other instos who are taking a short position. Here those same instos are covering and returning those shares by buying them back at this low price but a lot are via cross trade and not on actual open market. To my understanding as long as these cross trades are at a 'fair' market price and they are declared then these trades are legal it seems, from one client to another with the same broker, possibly even within the same firm through subsidiaries or through custodians etc.
I guess some of us think they have used the CR to buy up the new shares at 18c when the share price was say 21/22c, knowing they will profit as it drops to the CR price. They can then cross trade with this new cheaply bought stock to cover the ones they borrowed short to close out the position when the SP is brought down to that CR price with retail etc selling without sending the price up like you normally would with such large buying pressure of closing such numbers (i.e. a short squeeze) as the cross trades are matched and not technically on market as such. They can then also buy more on top on market through algorithmic trading at the same time to accumulate and go long (short to long) at that now lower undervalued price.
If they keep it in this range for a little while they can cover more and scoop up more of the stock at these low prices having profited from the drop then let it run with a new larger holding and profit long.
There are a lot of cross trades and special trades with SYA recently.....
If they can do this they can set their new long position during this time having closed their short one without causing a squeeze, then remove the resistance wall holding the price down while there is relative low retail buy pressure, then say a big announcement drops and boom the SP is off to the races unencumbered by short positions with big retail buyer demand returning. They then make a killing long as retail flock back in as it goes upwards in a natural supply/demand driven way moving forward.
I don't short and am not BEOT so I really couldn't tell you any more, I simply like to watch the numbers and data in detail to try to find patterns in what they do to then understand the behaviour of these guys as an indicator to their plans and possible next course of action. Patterns and timeframes and expected events all seem to be lining up which is quite interesting.
I hope that makes sense, bit long winded sorry! Who knows with these bast*rds, they are good at what they do because they can do what we can't lol, so I may be wrong, that's my take on what's going on Scroll.
