I think whoever raised it was deliberate because the term is ambiguous and depends on the perception of Australian norms.
So it may have been a way of giving Twiggy a backhander without giving Twiggy a backhander!
Either way the assertion Twiggy is un-australian is ludicrous. If anyone deserves an Australian award despite his wealth and not because of it, because of his actions despite his talk, is Twiggy.
I never met the guy but if I did I would shake his hand and thank him.
