TAXPAYERS are forking out more than twice as much for John Howard's expenses than for any other former prime minister, a report has revealed.

Mr Howard's Sydney office cost taxpayers $186,845 in the second half of last year, more than double the cost for the next highest, that of Malcolm Fraser, and more than three times the cost of the offices run by Bob Hawke, Paul Keating and Gough Whitlam.

The decade-long Liberal leader's car costs of $17,240 were also nearly double that of each of the other former leaders.
