People seem to forget that "politicians" and "activists" are completely different in their motivation.
An activist believes in something that they have learned about and do everything they can to raise awareness on the topic to a broader market. A politician does everything they can to raise awareness of themselves, and in doing so, will often pay think tanks to find topics and content offering a broader market for them to appeal to.
Sure, some politicians begin as activists, but often once they reach career status they usually disband themselves from their original motivation (thinking Peter Garrett for example). But it is rare that you will find a career status politician who sincerely gives a rats arse about whatever they are pitching, especially if it is in a swinging environment.
