Firstly, humanity is in no need of street preachers, or any other preacher from within the church system, or via TV or from within the cult and evangelist systems. There are no religious experts and nobody has a mandate to preach in this age. They will ask if they want to hear the good news. To take advantage of a public space to preach is any particular doctrine is not acceptable.
Secondly, the religious / science - atheist debate is so polarised that all it produces are rude and ignorant people on both sides who are intolerant, bigoted and self-inflated.
The preacher should have been treated with respect, so long as he was not bothering people, but he also should not have been using a public place to promote his beliefs, which are not universal and not the only truth.
