You would have read wrong and I've worked in the car industry (design) in the past and have connections in there. The only one still pushing for it a little is Toyota but even they are bending to the demand of people, market etc, all else is Lithium battery with some bits of sodium but even there they're ridiculously far off from competing with Lithium and will only be used on some very entry model cars as they don't have the same quality, range or light weightness, but won't be anything in it either.

Takes auto industry a decade to start something and lithium EV cars have been in the development since 2008, motorbikes and scooters, not to mention the commercial side with Buses, Trucks, Vans as well and all of that is only just starting to come to mainstream with infrustructure for charging ports all in development across countries globally.

Hydrogen is not the future, BMW tried in the 90s with their 7 series and they do still have some development but all focus is electric, even their M Division sports cars are in development to become fully electric with lithium batteries, potentially a hybrid but the push is to go beyond the hybrid at least on the everyday models.

More chance of synthetic fuel succeeding than hydrogen, with Porsche successfully using it in racing already but that will be for small production and high perfomance vehicles.

Barely any explosions, media fear mongering and propaganda. There was a time when Samsung phones were exploding because of the lithium battery but that was a decade ago and those issues were resolved. If it was a real issue all these automakers wouldn't be spending billions of dollars into development for this direction, too costly from so many angles for them if battery explosions were a real issue.

There's renewed talk from the auto industry and electric battery supply chain of a lack of supply of lithium to meet the current demand, not a change of direction in maybe a decade if other technology can start to compete but also be implemented into the development of the vehicles.

Anyway RR1 is an explorer next to what's said to be the next big thing in lithium with Delta Lithium DLI and their Yinetherra prospect, all of this lithium will be needed and more especialy with more projects hitting issues to come online from other countries.

Maybe in ten years sodium or something else will come on to compete but that's not an issue for today or really an issue for RR1.

Lets see if there's anything worth mining for in the ground first. Crawl before we walk before running.
