I think you are drawing a rather long bow farmboy. I mean, I understand the reasoning you employ but it is flawed because a company or even an individual can sustainably, safely and properly produce a product whilst at the same time as satisfying a market for that product.
The mere fact that a market exists for a product, does not give a green light to any company to produce that product in an unacceptable way having scant regard for the health and safety of its employees or those who consume the product.
Our corporate landscape is littered with companies who seemingly care little about their employees health and safety, or indeed the health and safety of others.
The best example of course in history is Union Carbide.

Moreover, the BP's of this world and the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico is but the tip of the iceberg when it comes to corporate misadventure and negligence.
The other example that comes readily to mind is the excesses of Wall St, the various banks around the world and the financial instruments that were dreamt up which caused so much grief around the world not to mention a near financial meltdown. Yet another example of corporate misbehavior.
