By the very nature of the infrastructure needed to effect electronic transactions a fee must be paid in some form, usually per transaction, to cover the costs of doing it that way.
Given enough transactons.. and probably actually not that many really, that exact individual digital dollar will eventuslly be eroded away to nothing from the fees of just using it..
Do the same same series of transactions with actual folding cash, and a dollar is always a dollar for its entire life, despite whatever damage may be done by inflation to its actual purchasing power, which will aslo apply to a digital dollar anyway.
this is not to mention the savings available from some vendors who will give you a discount for cash.
Also the potential for abuse is clear. America cut Russia off from the swift system as punishment for percieved wrongs.. the same thing will happen but on a personal individual level if we allow governments control over cash by making it digital only. Ditto what Canada tried to do to the truckies that weren't acting as the government had wanted them to a wee while ago
the writing is on the wall people.
We need to maintain the option for payments in real cash. Once its gone it will be nearly impossible to get back.
