Two different services;

Mudlogging; is where the likes of KiwiGeo hang out. They take samples of the materials that are recovered to surface, drill cuttings and gas samples. They have instruments that measure parameters continuously as the well is being drilled. IMHO drilling an exploration well without this service working was worse than not being able to get a sample to surface. They got samples but did not get a continuous log that is so important. Geoprolog will do this work.

Mud Engineering; these guys make the drilling fluid. BH still does this work.
