In Melbourne, Pacific National has its own South Dynon inner city rail terminal.
Aurizon's new intermodal service uses Victoria Dock, which has much shorter loops (i.e. tracks between sets of points), so it has to operate the train in two divisions - initially to/from Moorabool Loop near Geelong, but now to/from manor Loop between Werribee and Little River.
In Perth, Pacific National uses Kewdale; Aurizon uses the more southerly Kwinana.
Aurizon and PN are competitors, so naturally, trains will operate over the same national standard gauge rail network.
These standard gauge interstate tracks are maintained by the Federal Government business enterprise Australian Rail Track Corporation, except in WA where it's up to ARC Infrastructure, and on the Tarcoola - Darwin line where AZJ does this.
