I think you will find that UCG syngas is naturally high in hydrogen and low in methane compared with conventional gas.
Can anyone tell me how many fuel cells it takes to produce say 200MW and at what cost? A 200MW gas fired power station might cost something like $250-300mill I understand.
My understanding has always been that UCG syngas, being of different composition to conventional gas, cant easily be distributed via existing gas pipelines and therefore lends itself to "at source" application eg a power stn, GTL plant, a fertiliser plant or a methanation plant.
Fuel cells to my understanding are a good fit for smaller scale residential and commercial applications converting piped gas to electricity.
Are fuel cells now produced to replace gas fired turbine power stations? If not, how will LNC distribute their syngas for smaller scale off site applications?
