some of you guys were totally against the tax. If you had had your way, Australians would be deprived of this extra revenue from the booming resource sector. With this modified version, we will be receiving an estimated $10b from the tax, for the benefits of the Australian community.
This government has done well for Australians. Without this tax, much of the profits would have gone overseas: a majority of RIO shareholders are foreigners, there is a very large portion of BHP shareholders who are foreigners (in fact, BHP is not majority Australian-owned), and that Swiss-owned company is of course 100% foreign-owned.
Instead of speaking up for Australians, Tony Abbott is 100% against this tax, thus if he has his way, will deprive Australia of the extra revenue to help pay for services and infrastructure in this country.
