What the general argument is concerning refugees for me is this: Is it fair for those who have been waiting in genuine refugee camps (no Dave, not those who have made their way to Indonesia paying great sums of money along the way) to have to wait even longer to receive their FAIR opportunity to enter a country as those with the big cash that can bribe their way to their country of choice via an illegal expedition on a boat? Why should a mother and her children be forced to wait even longer to receive entry, purely based on the fact she does not have enough money to pay her way in?
finnet, you spout off about xenophobia, yet I can't recall ANY condemnation of the Rudd/GILLARD policy of deferred processing of Sri-Lankan and Afghani asylum seekers based ENTIRELY on their ethnicity.
