They are only assets if they are wisely used otherwise they will just be fritted away. The problem any investor faces right now is nobody knows what the company intends to do with these assets.
This doesn't mean that IXC is doomed, just that things are more a gamble than an investment at the moment. Some people like to gamble on stocks, others invest. Both approaches can work, but it is not wise to confuse the two.
